Waukesha Parade Memorial Recognized with Concrete Design Award

At the 43rd Annual Concrete Design Awards, hosted by the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association, we were honored to receive recognition in the Public category for the Waukesha Parade Memorial project. This prestigious award celebrates excellence in concrete applications, highlighting projects that demonstrate innovation, craftsmanship, and impact.

A Memorial of Remembrance and Strength

The Waukesha Parade Memorial at Grede Park stands as a lasting tribute to the victims and all those affected by the 2021 Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy. Designed as a place of reflection and remembrance, the memorial transforms a moment of heartbreak into a symbol of resilience and community strength.

Crafting a Lasting Legacy in Concrete

The memorial’s construction required 500 cubic yards of concrete, incorporating a variety of mixes tailored to different structural and aesthetic needs. A 3,000-psi footing mix and a 4,000-psi wall mix provided the foundation, while a six-bag mix with low chert aggregate was selected for the exterior decorative flatwork. Charcoal and cool gray integral colors enhanced the design, creating a visually striking and meaningful space.

Overcoming Challenges Through Expertise

One of the project’s greatest challenges was its aggressive timeline. With construction beginning in May 2024 and a dedication ceremony set for November 21, our team had just five months to bring the vision to life. Understanding the significance of this memorial, we dedicated every resource to ensure an on-time completion.

The heart-shaped design presented additional complexities for concrete placement. To achieve a seamless finish, we incorporated a high-range water-reducing additive into the 4,000-psi mix, improving pumpability and workability without compromising strength.

A Community United

The successful completion of the Waukesha Parade Memorial stands as a testament to collaboration, technical expertise, and unwavering commitment. On November 21, the community gathered to honor the victims and reaffirm that their memory will never be forgotten. We are deeply proud to have played a role in this meaningful project, ensuring that the memorial will stand strong for generations to come.
