Our team was proud to participate in this year’s Canstruction Milwaukee, an annual event hosted by Women In Design - Milwaukee, AIA Milwaukee, and Wisco NOMA. This international competition challenges teams to design and build impressive structures using only canned goods—all in support of hunger relief efforts.
Canstruction is more than just a design competition; it’s an opportunity for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) community to come together and make a tangible impact. This year, 13 teams from the Milwaukee area participated, creating intricate sculptures entirely out of canned and non-perishable food.
Each structure required a minimum of 1,000 food items and was built to reflect the 2025 theme: “WisCANsin.”
Teams competed for awards in several categories, including Best Meal, Structural Ingenuity, Best Original Design, Most Cans, Best Use of Labels, and People’s Choice. However, the true reward lies in the cause—once the event concludes, all food used in the structures is donated to the Jewish Community Pantry, which has been serving residents in Milwaukee’s Metcalfe Park and Amani neighborhoods for over 50 years.
For this year’s theme, our team created a WisCANsin tailgate spread—complete with a burger and a beer. This fun and iconic design celebrates Wisconsin’s rich sports and food culture while contributing to a meaningful cause.
You can see our CANtastic creation, along with other innovative builds, at the Milwaukee Public Museum from February 1-17. We encourage everyone to visit, vote for their favorite structures, and support this impactful initiative.
We’re honored to be part of an industry that not only builds structures but also builds stronger communities. A big thank you to our team and all the event organizers for making this year’s Canstruction Milwaukee a success!
